After making teeny-weeny t-shirts last week, I decided that this weeks baby DIY project had to be pants. I was dying to try Rae's Basic Newborn Pant pattern - the pictures of the finished pants just look so adorable & it was free! I think I'll actually be forking out dollars for Rae's patterns in future, because these pants turned out so cute and they were so dang easy to put together! The pattern instructions are really clear and easy to follow, plus this post about adding pockets & contrast binding cuffs is really helpful too. I've got my eye on the Big Butt Baby Pants pattern, and the Flashback Skinny Tee & Toddler Backpack patterns for a little further down the track. Anyway, here are the pants I made from Rae's pattern:
You might notice I'm lazy, and haven't actually put the elastic in the waist of these pants yet. That's because pregnancy has made me into a little old lady, and I can only really do anything for about half-an-hour at a time before I need a nap. The Batman print pair was made from an op-shopped quilt cover, and the dinosaur pair from an op-shopped pillow case. I didn't embellish these pairs at all, just hemmed the pant legs.
I made this cute little pair to match the Batman tee I made last week! They are made from the same yellow knit that I used for ribbing in the t-shirt. The Batman applique on the front came from the remains of the men's Batman tee I cut up for the baby tee. I also added some cute fold-over cuffs of black knit fabric.
Another matching pair of pants, this time for the Skellington tee! I used the leftover fabric from the mens t-shirt I cut up for the baby tee to make the pants. I added black knit fold-over cuffs to these ones are well. I am in love with this creepily cute little tuxedo set!
Also, both of these pairs have back pockets. They're really only decorative pockets, since you couldn't really fit anything in them, but hey. The pockets on the Batman pair are made from black knit fabric scraps, and the pockets on the Skellington pants are made from leftover t-shirt scraps.
What patterns/baby DIY projects do you think I should try next? I've got this tiny tank top pattern on my list to try, as well as these Neutral Newborn Knit Pants. I also really want to have a crack at making some of these hats - and I have a whole Pinterest board of baby ideas, plus one for nursery ideas. Decisions, decisions!
